Events and Programs
Throughout the year, the Hager House sponsors a variety of activities and special events focusing on aspects of eighteenth and nineteenth century life.

The weekly and annual events are informative and fun for the whole family.

February 10 - “Love Letters”
Love is in the air and in print. Enjoy a brief lesson on beautiful love letters written through the ages. Enjoy learning how love has been shared over the Ages. Slideshow & Lecture 7 p.m. Free

March 17 - “Irish in Hagerstown”
Come and celebrate St. Patrick’s day in a unique way! Come and here about the “other” influential culture in the Hagerstown area. Who were some of the outstanding Irish figures in the local area and how did they shape the Hagerstown that we know today? Slideshow & Lecture 7 p.m. Free

April 7 - Opening Day of the Hager House
Regular hours and historical tours resume.

April 16 - Kids Day @ the Hager House” Children’s Program
Kids will get to see the Hager House and off-tour items/areas and the chance to touch some objects plus try on colonial clothing and learn and play some colonial games.. Programs available Saturday 9-12 and 1-4. Admission cost: $2 per child. Adults $2 with paying child. Registration is required by April 15 *

April 21-23 - German Easter
A look at German Easter Customs and Traditions. Regular hours and admission.

April 30-May 1 - “Museum Ramble”
Children’s Program - Children ages 6 to 12 will get a unique opportunity to experience the Hager House from a hands – on perspective. As part of the program learn about the clothing and toys in Hager’s Time. Program available Saturday 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Admission cost: $2 per child. Adults $2 with paying child. Registration required by April 15 *

May 21 - The National Pike Festival Wagon Train”
is scheduled to stop in City Park at 2 p.m. Free pony rides on Hager House grounds while you wait for the wagon train 1:30 -3:30 pm.

June 18 - “A Woman’s Day”
Take a tour of the Hager House and Grounds through the eyes of a colonial woman. Learn hands on about our herb garden and some of herbs usages, how to dress like a lady and many more activities women of the period participated in . Walking Lecture & Hands On Experience * 1 p.m. Fee $5.00 Reservations required by June 17

“Herbs of Hager’s Time" Lecture
Take a visual stroll through the Hager House gardens learn about some of the herbs commonly grown in Colonial times and some of their unusual home and medicinal uses. Free.

July 14 - “Hagerstown’s Historic Homes and Buildings”
Learn about some of the history behind some of Hagerstown's.still standing historic structures. Lecture & Slideshow. Free 7 p.m.

August 18 - “The Market House”
Find out about the background behind the 220 plus year old continuously operating Farmer’s market from the 18th century up until modern day . Lecture & Slideshow Free 7 p.m.

August 20 - “Colonial Family Fun Day”
Come participate in our annual Colonial Games for families. Learn about the pastimes of families on the frontier and compete against other families in a fun filled field day. Registration required. Please call by Saturday August 20 to confirm your space. Entry fee $5 per family (1-2 adults + children; includes tour + activities). 11:00 am -4:00 pm. Weather Permitting.*

Maryland Mermories Website September 17-18 - “Autumn Arts Festival”
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come join us in our fifth year with Appalachian-style music, 50+ craft vendors, food and Hager House tours. Events and activities throughout City Park. Free admission to festival. Reduced admission to the Hager House.*

September 29 - “Grim Reapings”
Learn about Early American burial customs and superstitions. Lecture and Slideshow.
7 p.m. Free.

October 1 - “Oktoberfest: Hager House Style”
German themed Children’s crafts and activities plus a tour of the Hager House. 1 p.m. Reservation required by September 30. Minimal fee: $5.00 (1 / 2 adults plus children = activities and tour)*

October 7, 8,14 , 15, 21, 22, 30 & 31 - Haunted Hager House
Is the home of Hagerstown’s founder haunted? Come and see! Reservations are required. Tours offered at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. each evening. $3.00 each.

October 27 - “Witchcraft”
The witchcraft hysteria was not just limited to Salem! Learn about witches in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. Lecture & Slideshow 7 p.m. Free.

Experience the Jonathan Hager House through the sights of a German Christmas; decorated for the season to learn of the German Christmas customs and traditions. Tours will be offered this holiday season by appointment only. Reservations must be made atleast a day in advance. The dates available are December 3, 9, 10, 16, 17 & 23. Friday hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday hours are 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please call 301.739.8577 ext. 183 for reservations and more information.

December 2 - Holiday Tree Lighting in City Park
Come see the tree in the center of the lake lit for the Holiday Season. Free open house of the Hager House as well as light refreshments provided in the Hager House Museum.7 p.m. Call for details.
