Events and Programs
Throughout the year, the Hager House sponsors a variety of activities and special events focusing on aspects of eighteenth and nineteenth century life.

The weekly and annual events are informative and fun for the whole family.

March 25 -29   "German Easter"

April 1   “Opening Day Hager House”

April 10   “Mother Goose Unplugged”
Kids of all ages will have a great time learning the true meanings and historical background of your favorite nursery rhymes. 7 p.m. Free.

April 19-20  “Behind the Scenes at the Hager House” Children’s Program
Ages 6-12. Kids get to see the Hager House and off-tour items/areas and learn about clothing and toys in Hager’s Time. Programs run Saturday 9-12 and Sunday 1-4. Admission cost: $2 per child. Adults $2 with paying child. Registration is required by Friday April 11- please specify Saturday OR Sunday.

May 3-4   “Museum Ramble”
This special weekend will feature a no admission open house along with a fun scavenger hunt for the family to complete as they walk through the Hager House and Museum. Also on site will be a French and Indian War encampment with reenactors in period dress. Something for the whole family Saturday 10-4, Sunday 1-5 *

May 17    "The National Pike Festival Wagon Train"
The National Pike Festival Wagon Train will stop opposite the Hager House at 2 p.m. Come out and see how the first settlers traveled to the West.

June 12   “Herbs of Hager’s Time”
Take a walk through the Hager House gardens and learn about some of the herbs commonly grown in Colonial times and their home and medicinal uses. 7 p.m. Free.

June 14    “Renaissance Festival”
The Highland Forde Barony presents their annual Middle Ages Festival, with mock fighting , merchants and more. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free to watch the events. *

July 17    “Launched into Eternity
Come learn about Hagerstown's and our neighboring states infamous criminals of the 18th and 19th century and the sensational reporting of their demises. Free. 7 p.m.

August 9    “Colonial Family Fun Day
Come participate in our first ever day of Colonial Games for families. Learn about the pastimes of families on the frontier and compete against other families in a fun filled field day. Registration required. Please call by Friday July 25th to confirm your space. Entry fee $10 per family (1-2 adults + children; includes tour + activities). 1:00 pm -4:00 pm. Weather Permitting. *

August 21    “Loopholes, stockades and blockhouses
Learn about the ways that settlers on the Frontier like Jonathan Hager fortified their homes. Free 7 p.m.

August 22-23    “Civil War Encampment
Reenactors from both sides of the war will be presenting a living history camp. Come and see how soldiers would bivouac during the war between the states.

September 13-14   "Autumn Arts Festival"
Hagerstown’s oldest and largest crafts show with Appalachian-style music, food and House tours. 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Free. *

September 25   “Grim Reapings”

October 30    “Witchcraft!”
The witchcraft hysteria was not just limited to Salem! Learn about witches in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. 7 p.m.

Come join us this weekend for tours of the Hager House, a fun scavenger hunt, and colonial craft making. Reduced family admission- $5. Saturday 10-4, Sunday 1-5 p.m. Free.

November 28    “Holiday Tree Lighting in City Park”
Come see the tree in the center of the lake lit for the Holiday Season. Free open house of the Hager House as well as light refreshments provided in the Hager House Museum. Call for details.

December 2-December 28   “German Christmas”
Features German Christmas customs and traditions in a holiday- December 30 decorated atmosphere as part of the regular tour. Regular hours & Admission.
