Events and Programs
Throughout the year, the Hager House sponsors a variety of activities and special events focusing on aspects of eighteenth and nineteenth century life.

The weekly and annual events are informative and fun for the whole family.

April 7-11   "German Easter"

April 18   “Play Ball!”
Come celebrate the start of baseball season with a game of Rounders- the colonial baseball game! Demonstration and “pick up” game. 1-2 pm. FREE.

April 25-26  “Behind the Scenes at the Hager House” Children’s Program
Ages 6-12. Kids get to see the Hager House and off-tour items/areas and learn about clothing and toys in Hager’s Time. Programs run Saturday 9-12 and Sunday 1-4. Admission cost: $2 per child. Adults $2 with paying child. Registration is required by Friday April 11- please specify Saturday OR Sunday.

May 2-3   “Museum Ramble”
This special weekend will feature a no admission open house along with a fun scavenger hunt for the family to complete as they walk through the Hager House and Museum. Also on site will be a French and Indian War encampment with reenactors in period dress. Sat. 10-4, Sunday 1-5 *

May 16   “How to Make a Colonial Bonnet”
Would you like to learn how to make your own frontier bonnet and apron? Our staff will teach you how! 2 hour workshop. Class fee of $5 per person includes materials. Very minimal sewing knowledge required. 12-2 pm Ages 7 and up. Registration required by Fri. May 8.

May 16   "The National Pike Festival Wagon Train"
The National Pike Festival Wagon Train is scheduled to stop in City Park at 2 p.m.Free pony rides on Hager House grounds while you wait for the wagon train 1:30 -3:30 pm.

June 6   “Renaissance Festival”
The Highland Forde Barony’s annual Middle Ages Festival, with mock fighting , merchants and more. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free to view festival, nominal admission to Hager House. *

June 25   “Herbs of Hager’s Time”
Guided walk through the Hager House gardens teaching some of the herbs commonly grown in Colonial times and their home and medicinal uses. 7 p.m. Free.

July 16   “Mother Goose Unplugged”
Kids of all ages will enjoy learning the true origins of our favorite nursery rhymes. 7 p.m. Free. (Suggested for Children from ages 8 to 108)

August 6   “Antebellum Hagerstown”
The story of pre-war Hagerstown as told by the newspaper reporters of the time. Free 7 p.m.

August 8-9   “Civil War Encampment”
Reenactors from both sides of the war will be presenting a living history camp. Come and see how soldiers would bivouac during the War Between the States.

August 29    “Colonial Family Fun Day”
Come participate in our first ever day of Colonial Games for families. Learn about the pastimes of families on the frontier and compete against other families in a fun filled field day. Registration required. Please call by Friday August 21st to confirm your space. Entry fee $5 per family (1-2 adults + children; includes tour + activities). 1:00 pm -4:00 pm. Weather Permitting.*

September 12-13   “Autumn Arts Festival”
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Formerly Jonathan Hager Craft Days) Come join us in our second year with Appalachian-style music, 50+ craft vendors, food and Hager House tours. Events throughout City Park. Rain or Shine. Free admission to festival. Reduced admission to the Hager House.*

October 29    “Grim Reapings”
Learn about Early American burial customs and superstitions.” 7 p.m. Free.

The witchcraft hysteria was not just limited to Salem! Learn about witches in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. 7 p.m. Free.

Come see the tree in the center of the lake lit for the Holiday Season. Free open house of the Hager House as well as light refreshments provided in the Hager House Museum. Call for details.

Freaky First Fridays!
Is the home of Hagerstown’s founder haunted? Come and see the first Friday evening of every month! Candlelit tours of the Hager House and stories of its hauntings. Reservations are required. Tours times depend on sunset. Please call for details. One tour each evening. $3.00 each person. Dates: May 1 (8 pm), June 5 (9 pm), July 3 (9 pm), August 7 (9 pm), September 4 (9 pm), October 2 (7 pm), November 6 (7 pm).

Sunny Sundays!The last Sunday of every month is Kids Day at the Hager House. Tours will be geared towards visitors with children, more interactive than our regular historic tours and given at 2 pm, 3pm, and 4 pm. Please call for details. Dates: April 26, May 31, June 28, July 26, August 30, September 27, & October 25.
